Mechanical Engineering at the
South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. We have prepared this page to answer the most frequently asked questions
about our program. The department offers many exciting options for your degree and numerous classes for your tailor made
program and specialization. We also offer opportunities to participate in engineering research and work closely with our faculty.
Faculty and students work hard, but there are also opportunities for recreational activities. The beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota
offer skiing, hiking and camping, fishing (many species of trout , bass, perch, pike and walleye), hunting, biking, and golf.
The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology has a long history of educating Norwegian scientists and engineers.

Undergraduate Course Requirements
The following is a brief description about the undergraduate course requirements in Mechanical engineering.
Junior Level
ME 311 Engineering Thermodynamics (Thermo II) 3 credit hours
ME 313 Heat Transfer 3 credit hours
ME 316 Solid Mechanics 3 credit hours
ME 331 Thermo Fluid Mechanics 3 credit hours
ME 352 Introduction to Dynamics Systems 3 credit hours
MATH 373 Introduction to Numerical Analysis 3 credit hours
If the students can verify that they have taken any of these courses they may be waived. A detailed course syllabus will be required.
